Oliver Glasner could have one eye on the Crystal Palace exit doors as Liverpool continue their quest for Marc Guehi’s signature.

Despite travelling to London for his medical, a move to Liverpool appears to be in doubt for Guehi, who has now entered into the final year of his contract with the Eagles.

While Glasner has expressed his desire to keep the club captain this summer, it was understood that if a replacement was found, the 25-year-old would be allowed to join the Reds for £35million.

Now, there are fears that the manager could walk away from Selhurst Park should a deal go through for the defender, especially after the Eagles’ signing of Igor Julio was hijacked by West Ham.

Ruben Amorim, Graham Potter, and Nuno Espirito Santo, of Nottingham Forest, have all been linked with exits recently, but it is the former who faces the most pressure heading into the 2025/26 campaign.

According to Indy Kaila (1 September), Glasner has big admirers at Old Trafford, and should he leave the Eagles, he would be keen to become Amorim’s successor.

Amorim is under considerable pressure at Man United, having only just beaten Burnley for the Red Devils’ first win of the 2025/26 campaign, but the performance was not a convincing one.

While Glasner is pushing for his best defender to stay, and understandably so, it is unlikely that Steve Parish and Co.

would sacrifice £35m for the player to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Several possible replacements have been targeted, including AC Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic, whom Glasner is a fan of, but with very little time remaining in the window, no deals have come to fruition.

Jaydee Canvot appears set for a move to the Premier League, but with the 19-year-old only boasting a handful of senior appearances, he cannot be seen as the answer to Guehi.

It is clear to see why the Austrian has been left frustrated and disappointed, having had an entire transfer window to solve this specific problem, yet the club have entered into panic mode.

That could all end with Glasner pushing for an exit of his own, and with Old Trafford still pulling star players in despite the ongoing chaos, the Palace boss could be the next in line for the thrown.

Despite claiming a win against the Clarets, Amorim is running out of time to prove himself as the figure to take the Red Devils forward.
