The Premier League's mid-season winter break has been scrapped, despite recommendations from Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
English football's top flight had previously introduced a pause just after the busy Christmas period, but will now revert back to its original schedule following several alterations.
This change allows for a mid-August start date for the Premier League, providing players with a longer summer break.
The aim is to ensure all Premier League players receive a consecutive three-week break during the summer months.
This decision was made based on expert advice from medical and technical departments, who believe a longer complete rest period in the summer is more beneficial than a short winter break.
From the 2024/25 season, the traditional curtain raiser, the Community Shield, will take place on 10 August — the Saturday before the start of the Premier League season.
Klopp had been a strong advocate for a short pause midway through the campaign but will no longer be affected as he prepared to leave Anfield this summer.
However, with the Premier League and cup competitions now running continuously from the outset, such mid-season respites are off the table.
Liverpool.com says: Klopp was a big fan of the winter break in the Premier League as his players got a much-needed rest after the festive period.
