Harvey Elliott has been one of the most talked-about departure candidates throughout Liverpool’s summer transfer window, with his future at Anfield hanging in the balance amid persistent interest from multiple clubs.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who was crowned Player of the Tournament at this summer’s Under-21 European Championship with five goals in six games, has attracted significant attention from Premier League rivals and European clubs alike.

RB Leipzig were thought to be most keen on the player, especially after selling Xavi Simons to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, that move has not materialised.

Now the Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell has reported that Aston Villa are in discussions with Liverpool over a deal that “ensures Villa comply with UEFA restrictions”:

“Aston Villa are exploring a move to sign Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott,” he revealed.

“Discussions are centred around a structure of an agreement that ensures Villa comply with UEFA restrictions.”

“Any move will come after Liverpool reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United that will cost the Merseyside club £125m.”

“Unai Emery has wanted to add a creative midfielder to his squad, with Villa previously keen to sign West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta and Marco Asensio prior to Fenerbahce agreeing terms with Paris Saint-Germain.”

Liverpool have set a hefty valuation of £40 million with a buy-back clause or £50 million without one, demands that have seemingly deterred potential suitors throughout the summer.

But Aston Villa have had a middling summer window and are in need of some reinforcements, particularly with how poorly they have started the season.
