The Premier League, alongside the FA, have announced an increase to their funding of the football pyramid.

There has often been criticisms of the way the pyramid is currently run, with the immense wealth the Premier League produces struggling to trickle down to the lower tiers.

However, starting from the 2025-26 season, the Premier League will increase the funding from £100 million to £133 million, giving an addition £33 million on top of the 100 million it currently gives to ‘good causes’ every season.

Presently, the Premier League allocates £1.6 billion every three years – equivalent to 16 percent of its overall revenues – across various tiers of men’s and women’s football.

This additional funding will substantially bolster support for diverse facets of the sport as it progresses and expands.

This initiative seeks to elevate both the playing and spectator experience while bolstering clubs’ financial sustainability.

Additionally, the funding will create more opportunities for individuals with disabilities to engage in football and support the ongoing advancement of the girls’ game.

Furthermore, it will facilitate the ongoing development of leagues across the men’s and women’s football pyramid, aligning with the FA’s new National League System Strategy.

Notably, the Premier League presently allocates similar support within the women’s game through an existing £21 million investment.

What was said on the Premier League and its increased funding?

FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham said:

“We have greed new funding for the grassroots game, disability football and the women’s and girls’ game.”

“All football begins at the grassroots, and this is recognised by the Premier League with very welcome additional financial support.”

Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters, added:

“The Premier League is proud of the investment it provides to all levels of the game and this new agreement with the FA will see us enhance our support into grassroots football.”

“This will improve facilities for communities and lower league clubs across the country, through the Football Foundation and Premier League Stadium Fund.”
