Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has described the death of Liverpool striker Diogo Jota as "devastating".
Tragic news emerged today that Jota and his brother Andre Silva had been killed in a car crash in Spain.
The Spanish civil guard said the 28-year-old Reds star died alongside his brother after their car went off the A52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora at 12.40am on Thursday.
According to the Zamora provincial council, the vehicle, which police said was a Lamborghini, caught fire which spread to the surrounding vegetation.
A statement from the Guardia Civil said: "The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blow out while overtaking."
"It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora."
Tributes have been pouring in for the footballer from around the world.
Speaking during an event in London today, Sir Keir Starmer said the death of the footballer was "devastating news" and said millions of fans would be shocked by the news.

The Prime Minister told reporters: “Let me start with Jota, because this is devastating news.
“I’m sure I speak for everyone in saying our first thoughts are going to be with his family and his friends in particular.
“But there are millions of Liverpool fans, but also football fans, and non-fans, who will also be shocked by this.
“I think Liverpool Football Club have just put a statement out as I understand it, but it is devastating, and it is really important we bear in mind just how difficult a period this will be for his friends and for his family.”

Liverpool Football club have released an official statement following Jota's passing, after speaking to the 28-year-old's family, as they requested the privacy of Diogo and Andre's loved ones is respected.
Liverpool FC's club statement read: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
"We will continue to provide them with our full support."
Football superstar and Portugal national side team mate of Jota's, Cristiano Ronaldo has released his own tribute statement.
He said: "It doesn't make sense
"Just now we were together in the national team, you had just got married."
Sending his condolences to Jota's family, wife and children he added: "I know you will always be with them.
