Liverpool’s goalkeepers have been one of the hottest topics so far this transfer window.

The Reds are one of the very few teams who have not had to worry about goalkeeping issues over recent years, something they previously could not have said.

Ever since Alisson Becker’s arrival in 2018, he has been a stalwart between the sticks and firmly cemented himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

Injuries have been the only minor issue with the Brazilian, something not normally associated with goalkeepers, but he has always come back like he has never been away.

Although Caoimhin Kelleher has departed Liverpool for Brentford, the Irishman always covered for the Brazilian excellently, hence the reason he has earned his move to become the number one choice.

However, Alisson’s future has not been fully certain as of late, with the goalkeeper himself leaving question marks around how long he will stay on Merseyside for.

The Brazilian’s Anfield future has only become more unclear since Liverpool confirmed the signing of Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the Georgian already a first-team ready goalkeeper.

Although nobody is certain what Arne Slot may do with the pair in terms of playing time, Alisson may have just confirmed when he will be ready to depart the club and leave Mamardashvili as the obvious first choice.

“I have one year of contract left and one more year on a club option.

They will probably exercise this option,” Alisson revealed during a Brazil national team press conference.

“I think about what I have in hand, to do a great job.

It’s a decisive moment in my career, when a World Cup is coming.”

With Carlo Ancelotti coming in as the new Brazil head coach, Alisson will be hoping to impress him with performances this season, especially as this is a position that Brazil have rotated with in recent years.

Although arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, another injury could severely impact his career trajectory, especially now with Mamardashvili ready to pounce.

Where Alisson would go is a whole other situation, with Saudi and Turkish clubs often the ones linked with signing him.

However, like many Brazilians go on to do, Alisson could return to his homeland to play for his former club, with the keeper himself hinting at an Internacional return.

“I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not,” he said during the press conference.

“Each one will have their own experience, but I want to return, especially to Inter.

That’s what I have planned.”

Liverpool certainly have a sticky situation surrounding their goalkeeping choices but it is a good dilemma to have, although this appears to be just the start and the predicament may worsen later down the line.
