Kevin Phillips fears there is “no way back” for Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group despite their ‘positive’ talks with supporters trust Spirit of Shankly.

Liverpool’s supporters union Spirit of Shankly held ‘positive’ talks with club chief executive Billy Hogan on Tuesday as they sought assurances and change on a number of key issues.

The group have confirmed that Hogan, on behalf of FSG, ‘agreed there is a need for a new structure leading to meaningful and lasting supporter engagement.’ When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the meeting, Phillips said: “I always say, actions speak louder than words.

This meeting will hopefully be a chance for the owners to try and make up for what they did but there is no guarantee that they can.” In other news, ‘world-class’ 21-year-old tipped to walk into Liverpool XI next season amid Fabrizio Romano reveal.

“But sometimes when you have done something, there is no way back.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker applauded Reds chiefs for acknowledging “they were in the wrong” but insisted there is still a long way to go to rebuild trust.

FSG have come under intense criticism and scrutiny since their attempt to sign Liverpool up to the European Super League last month.
