Nuno Espirito Santo has gone from Nottingham Forest’s hero to the favourite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.
The Portuguese boss took charge at the City Ground in December 2023 with the Tricky Trees staring down the barrel of relegation.
But on the final day of the 2023/24 season, a win against Burnley was enough to save the Midlands side from the drop.
Nottingham Forest followed that up by qualifying for the Conference League last season, and following Crystal Palace’s multi-club ownership debacle, were upgraded to a place in the Europa League.

Despite a dominant 3-1 opening day win over Brentford, trouble is brewing in Nottingham.
Santo is now the widespread favourite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job, leapfrogging the struggling West Ham boss Graham Potter and Brentford’s Keith Andrews.

And following the revelations that the 51-year-old is at odds with Forest’s hierarchy, beIN SPORTS presenter Richard Keys weighed in on X.
The pundit said (22 August): “Put your money on Nuno being the first man sacked this season after today’s revelations.”
Football Insider Verdict
Having repaired his reputation following a less-than-stellar stint in North London in charge of Tottenham, the ex-Wolves boss will be one of the most sought-after managers if he leaves Forest.
As mentioned above, both Potter and Andrews are under pressure at their respective sides.
Whilst the Brentford boss is unlikely to be let go, having only taken over in the summer, chances are that the Bees will not risk their status as a Premier League side just to keep the experiment going with the former set-piece coach.

Meanwhile, Potter looked like a dead man walking following the hammering against Chelsea, and Santo’s ability to overcome a relegation battle may encourage the Irons to aggressively pursue the Portuguese boss.
West Ham have never been hesitant to let go of a manager, and since taking over at the beginning of 2025, the ex-Swansea City boss has won just five of his 21 matches in charge.
