Following information obtained by the Daily Mail earlier this month that the Reds' American owners had "held talks" with two Middle-East-based consortiums over a potential takeover of the club, Jordan-based publication Albawaba claimed that former Saudi Arabia international Saeed Al-Owairan has publicised plans for a possible Saudi-Qatar combined offer for Liverpool.

"FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch."

The report adds: "The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamas Al Thani, owns PSG through Qatar Sports Investment (QSI), the country's state-run sovereign wealth fund, and sources have said QSI is fully focused on the Ligue 1 side" In November it was revealed that the FSG would be open to a potential takeover of the club, with US banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley involved in the process of recruiting outside investment.

The statement read: "There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool "FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool.
