Timo Werner has move a stepped closer to leaving RB Leipzig after his manager Julian Nagelsmann admitted there was nothing more he could do to try and convince him to stay.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool amid reports he has a €60million (£53m) release clause in his contract.

The Germany international has scored 31 goals in all competitions for Leipzig this season and his departure would be a huge blow to the club.

Werner scored his 31st in a 4-2 victory over Cologne on Monday night and Nagelsmann seemed resigned to losing his star man following the game.

He said: 'There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me.

'I show him that — he gets many chances to develop himself. I don't know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day.

'A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn't feel that, it wouldn't do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here.

'In the end, it is his life, his career, he can decide that. I can't think of anything new to say to Timo.'
