Liverpool are reported to have made first contact with AC Milan over the summer signing of winger Rafael Leao.

Diaz, who contributed 13 goals to the league cause, is known to be on Barcelona's radar and claimed to be in the sights of Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr too, meanwhile Gakpo, after his own 10 goals, has tentatively been linked with Bayern Munich.

Now if one, or indeed both, were to depart Liverpool before the start of next season, a possible replacement has been mooted.

Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web are claiming that Leao, star of the current Milan side, has been subject to an inquiry from Reds chiefs in the view of completing a deal.

The 25-year-old was a product of Sporting CP's academy before moving to the San Siro via Lille in a £29.4m deal in 2019.

There he has won one Serie A title, scoring 70 goals and providing 62 assists in 270 total appearances.

Via Gazzetta dello Sport in 2023, the winger has already given Liverpool a green light about moving to England in advance by saying: "Premier League.

Serie A is currently very well positioned in the football world but I would definitely have to say the Premier League in the future."

He has even had a taster of Anfield with the Reds playing Milan home and away in the 2021/22 Champions League group stages, then again he faced Arne Slot's men in Italy in the new league phase.

However, a possible deal would appear to be complicated.

For a start, this latest report outlines that Milan are not wanting to sell their prized attacker and would only be tempted by a €130m (£109m) offer.

If they are amenable, then that would only lead to a transfer battle as Bayern are reportedly serious about their interest and have already held a meeting.

Leao is also on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs.

Meanwhile the Reds' focus continues to be negotiations for Florian Wirtz, who is going to cost north of £109m after an offer was rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, with talks still ongoing.
