Raheem Sterling’s stalemate with Chelsea is set to continue, as owner Todd Boehly is unlikely to compensate his exit.

Sterling was linked with the likes of Fulham and West Ham United during the summer transfer window, but the deals never materialised.

Even after the deadline at the start of September, the former England international had the option to make the move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey, but decided he wanted to remain in London.

The main reason why Sterling has been unable to find a new club is his £300,000 per week wage demands, which he has been unwilling to drop so far.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the winger will be stuck at Chelsea for the foreseeable future, as Boehly will not compensate any potential transfer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Sterling would thrive at a club like Celtic, who are reportedly interested in making a move for the attacker in the January window.

The 30-year-old has worked with Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers before, when the pair were at Liverpool together.

Wyness added that Sterling’s potential move to Celtic is unlikely to happen, as they would never pay £300k per week.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I can’t see that ever happening because I think Sterling would have to take a pay cut.

“They might pay £50,000 a week for him, maximum, but I’m afraid Chelsea aren’t going to support him with the £250,000 extra.

I really don’t see it unless there is something that is going on behind the scenes in terms of some other financial inducement, or a player swap they’ve got an eye on.

“There could be something going on in the background, but I really don’t see it on the basic facts as we have them right now.”

Meanwhile, Sterling and Axel Disasi are both reportedly “angling for a payout” after the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has got involved in their situations at Stamford Bridge.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who claims that the pair want to be subsidised for the remaining time on their contracts.

Sterling and Disasi are part of the ‘bomb squad’ currently training away from Enzo Maresca’s first team.

Despite this, the PFA is “satisfied” with the conditions for Sterling and Disasi, and its chief executive, Maheta Molango, has personally been in touch with Chelsea over their handling of both players.
