Mikey Moore could prove to be an instant hit at Rangers after completing his season-long loan move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham and England keeper Paul Robinson backed Moore to succeed amid the heightened expectations of success at Ibrox.

Tottenham were reluctant to let Moore leave the club this summer as a plethora of Championship clubs including Birmingham City, West Brom and Middlesbrough made moves up for the 17-year-old, but Rangers have won the race to sign him on loan for the new season.

Moore made 19 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season and scored his first goal against Elfsborg in the Europa League, and Robinson has said the teenager can hit new heights with Rangers.

Russell Martin promised Moore that he’ll start regularly for Rangers next season in a huge display of confidence in the winger’s abilities, as they prepare for their next round of Champions League qualifiers.

Rangers finalised the terms of Moore’s loan deal on Thursday and announced the “exciting” teenager’s signing on 1 August.

Djeidi Gassama has become an instant hit at Rangers with goals in both legs of their Champions League second-round qualifier against Panathinaikos, and Moore could have a similar impact on the other flank.

Speaking on the latest Inside Track, Robinson was excited at the prospect of Moore getting regular game-time at Ibrox next season, and expects him to showcase his “big, big talent” for the Light Blues.

“I think it’s a great move for both of them, [making] good use of the loan system”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“For Mikey Moore, at his age and at this stage of his development, going to a massive club – Rangers are getting an extremely talented, gifted young player – Thomas Frank’s spoken extremely highly of him.

“I think it’s just brilliant for both parties.

He’s going to go on to be a big, big talent in the Premier League, a huge player, and it’s an exciting time for both him and Rangers.

“For him, it’s a brilliant stage of his development, playing football, playing European football, and playing for a huge, huge club in Rangers who will be challenging for domestic honours.

“The demands and the expectations that are put on you at a club like Rangers will only support his development – I think it’s brilliant for both the player and Rangers.”

Moore’s move to Ibrox may only be temporary, but fellow Premier League loanees Nasser Djiga and Max Aarons have quickly established themselves as first-choice starters in Martin’s new-look setup at Ibrox.

Rangers are keen to strengthen further out wide and have seen a £20million loan-to-buy bid knocked back for Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, but this will be good news for Moore and Oliver Antman.

Missing out on Conor Coady to Wrexham could also prove to be a blessing in disguise as Martin looks to overhaul his squad with a more youthful presence, and the signing of 17-year-old Moore is a clear step in this direction.
