Cyriel Dessers has edged closer to a last-gasp Rangers exit as the closing of the summer transfer window looms at Ibrox.

Russell Martin, who is already under serious pressure at Rangers, has been very honest about the future of his players, stating multiple times that the club have received bids for the Nigerian striker.

A new bid appears to have emerged in Scotland, just days after the confirmation of Hamza Igamane’s big-money move to Ligue 1 giants Lille, but the Gers will not be left without firepower if a move does happen.

Djeidi Gassame, Oliver Antman, and Findlay Curtis have all added to the forward line so far this summer, with Bojan Miovski now joining the squad from Girona this summer after leaving Aberdeen last year.

Dessers, on the other hand, has received mixed reactions from the Ibrox faithful.

With 52 goals in 115 appearances, he has been a consistent figure for the Light Blues, but that might be about to end.

Taking to X (30 August), Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos wrote: “Panathinaikos made an offer to Rangers for Cyriel Dessers, and are now the favourites to sign him.”

The 30-year-old striker has been nothing short of an absolute professional, even despite constant criticism from the supporters, but he might have already played his final game in Rangers colours.

With over a century of appearances since joining in July 2023, the majority of fans are likely to only miss what they had once he signs for a new club, which could potentially be before the transfer deadline.
