Liverpool boast one of the most iconic names in English football and have consequently made their fair share of eye-catching transfers over the years.
The Reds added to their illustrious trophy cabinet in 2025 when they lifted the Premier League trophy, which was their 20th top-flight title.
Some of the Merseyside giants’ greatest players have been academy graduates, such as Steven Gerrard and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have often signed world-class talents from overseas, like former striker Fernando Torres.
But who are the Anfield club’s five most expensive signings?

Brazil international Alisson Becker has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2018.
The former Internacional man joined the Anfield outfit for a fee of £67million, as reported by Sky Sports in the summer of 2018.

Hugo Ekitike scored on his competitive debut for Liverpool, but it wasn’t enough to prevent them from being beaten by Crystal Palace in the Community Shield.
When he joined Slot’s side from Eintracht Frankfurt, he instantly became the North West club’s fourth most expensive player.
As reported by BBC Sport [23 July], Ekitike joined the Reds for a fee worth an initial £69m, which can raise by £10m including add-ons.

Just like Alisson, Virgil van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2018, after former star man Philippe Coutinho moved to Barcelona.
The defender has never looked back since joining the North West giants from Southampton, and has helped the Anfield outfit on their way to prestigious silverware.
Van Dijk’s Liverpool career has seen him sit among the likes of former Manchester United ace Nemanja Vidic and ex-England captain John Terry as one of the Premier League’s greatest centre backs.
He joined the Merseyside club from the Saints for a fee worth £75m, as per Sky Sports.

After signing for Liverpool from Benfica in 2022, Darwin Nunez left to join Al Hilal in 2025.
The striker endured a rollercoaster of a career at Anfield, which was largely defined by his inconsistent form in front of goal.
Nunez’s Liverpool spell saw him notch 40 goals in 143 appearances, but he scored just five Premier League goals as the Reds clinched the top-flight title in 2024/25.
The Uruguay international moved to Merseyside during Jurgen Klopp’s reign for a then-club record fee of £85million, as reported by Sky Sports.

While Ekitike became one of the Reds’ most expensive signings in 2025, Liverpool’s highest ever transfer fee belongs to Florian Wirtz, who signed in the same summer.
Similarly to the striker, Wirtz impressed on debut against Crystal Palace, notching an assist at Wembley.
As reported by BBC Sport, the attacking midfielder joined Slot’s men from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £116m.
