Real Madrid has confirmed the appointment of a former Liverpool man in a new coaching role.

The Spanish giants recently confirmed the appointment of ex-Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso as the club’s

Alonso enjoyed a stellar coaching spell at Bayer Leverkusen, guiding the German side to their first league title in history last season.

His impressive result in Germany made him one of the most sought-after coaches in Europe, with several top clubs  keen in hiring him.

Before moving to Real Madrid, Alonso was linked with a move to Liverpool.

However, the club opted for Arne Slot, who has since proved to be a masterstroke, by guiding Liverpool to the title in his first season.

Alonso will not be the only ex-Red at Real Madrid next season, though.

Former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa has been officially confirmed as the coach of Real Madrid’s B team.

The former Liverpool defender has been with the Real Madrid’s youth team, with whom he recently won the 2024–25 La Liga Juvenil title.

It was their first league championship since the 2019–20 season, with Arbeloa building a team that has demonstrated exceptional teamwork and resilience throughout the campaign.

Their latest victory adds to their impressive record, which includes multiple UEFA Youth League titles and a Copa del Rey Juvenil triumph in 2021.?

Real Madrid has now confirmed he will make a step up in his coaching by taking charge of Real Madrid’s reserve team known as Real Madrid Castilla.

“Real Madrid C.F.

announces that @Arbeloa will coach Castilla starting in the 2025-2026 season,” a statement from the club read.

“Arbeloa is a legend at Real Madrid and in Spanish football, and one of our club’s most iconic home-grown players.”

The Spaniard who made 92 appearances for Liverpool in three seasons has been building his reputation as a top coach with the Real Madrid youth team.
