Plenty of Liverpool fans have likewise been keeping an eye on proceedings at the Santiago Bernabeu to see how Trent Alexander-Arnold has been faring.
The Anfield youth product has been in close competition with Madrid legend Dani Carvajal for a starting spot on the right flank.
However, plenty of reports are now suggesting that Alexander-Arnold could be joined by one of his ex-teammates in La Liga.
Ibrahima Konate has captured the attention of the record European Champions, and by all account seem to be closing in on a deal.
The French defender is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and has been consistently linked with a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Konate’s current deal with Liverpool, signed in 2021, reportedly pays him around £70,000 per week.
However, the defender is understood to be pushing for a substantially higher salary.
On Monday, we brought you reports from Marca’s Jose Felix Diaz that Konate was in advanced talks to join Real Madrid.
Now, Italian reporter Nicolo Shira has endorsed the report to some extent but has gone further and claimed that the Spanish giants have already offered a contract running until 2031
“Ibrahima Konate’s plans are clear: he is ready to leave Liverpool as a free agent at the end of the season,” he reported on X.
“He has already turned down a huge bid from a Saudi Club.”
“Real Madrid are in talks to try to sign him from July: offered a contract until 2031.”
It’s certainly not a great sign that so many reports from different sources are arriving at the same conclusion
Konate himself fuelled the speculation during the international break when he jested that France team-mate Kylian Mbappé “calls me every two hours” to persuade him to join Real Madrid.
