Only at this point is the 26-year-old's exit from the Reds confirmed, but Los Blancos have made no secret of their pursuit.

With the FIFA Club World Cup approaching this June, their latest move has been to try and speed up the full-back's transfer so that he can feature at the tournament, even at the cost of a small fee.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti, who rued his defensive injuries, is supposedly stepping away from his role at the season's end.

Afterwards former Reds and Real midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is leaving Bayer Leverkusen, is tipped to take his place in the dugout.

So, even if Alexander-Arnold enters a changing room under a new coaching regime, whilst attempting to put recent troubles behind them, he would still be entering one that is unsettled.
