Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 20-year association with Liverpool reached a poignant conclusion this week as the right-back prepares to join Real Madrid, capping emotional final days at Anfield that included a title-winning bus parade and a tearful farewell to supporters.

The 26-year-old, who announced his departure earlier this month, fought back tears during his last appearance at Anfield and later joined teammates in celebrating Liverpool’s record-equalling 20th league title

“I’ve played hundreds of games here, but I’ve never felt more loved than today,” said Alexander-Arnold on Sunday.

“From the bottom of my heart, I hope fans will one day recognize everything I gave for this club”

The defender, who made 259 Premier League appearances and won seven major trophies, described the day as “the best of my life” despite the looming reality of his exit.

And while the city of Liverpool celebrated, Real Madrid have kept up their efforts to secure Alexander-Arnold’s services ahead of FIFA’s expanded 32-team Club World Cup, which begins on 14 June in the U.S.

Despite his contract expiring on 30 June, Madrid wants him registered for their opening group-stage match against Al-Hilal on 18 June.

Negotiations are said to be ongoing, with Liverpool holding firm on compensation demands.

FIFA’s special transfer window (1–10 June) allows clubs to register players specifically for the tournament, but Alexander-Arnold cannot participate without Liverpool’s consent before 30 June .

If no agreement is reached, he’d only be eligible for knockout-stage matches starting 28 June.

There was initially talk of a token £850,000 to expedite his release.

However, El Chiringuito now report that Real Madrid will pay Liverpool €5 million to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold’s arrival a few weeks before his contract expires, ensuring he can participate in the Club World Cup.

The 26-year-old leaves as one of Liverpool’s most decorated academy products, having won two Premier League titles, a Champions League, and domestic cups across 433 appearances .

Alexander-Arnold’s arrival coincides with Xabi Alonso with the 43-year-old signing a three-year contract through 2028.
