Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has admitted Martin Zubimendi’s future will be decided in June after he rejected a transfer to Liverpool last summer.

The Reds had agreed to pay Zubimendi's release clause only for the midfielder to U-turn on a move to Anfield at the 11th hour after last-minute talks with the La Liga outfit.

A year on and the Spain international continues to be linked with a move away from Sociedad with reports claiming Arsenal are now confident of luring him to the Premier League.



And the Sociedad chief has alluded to Zubimendi rejecting the Reds when insisting a departure this summer is not certain.

"We'll see what happens,” Aperribay told Radio Marca Donostia.

“All I ask of him is one last effort to qualify for Europe and whatever happens, will happen in June.

“There's no point in speculating now about whether he'll be there.

“He's had several opportunities to leave and he'll make the decision he wants, because he'll have more options.

"I don't remember our last conversation.

Martin is part of that.

"I don't know if it's difficult for him to stay.

I don't know if it's difficult."

Real Sociedad currently sit 10th in the La Liga table on 42 points with five games left to play.

They are two points behind eighth-placed Osasuna, who currently occupy the Europa Conference League play-off round qualification berth.

Meanwhile, Celta Vigo sit seventh in La Liga’s second Europa League league stage spot - two points clear of Sociedad.

Zubimendi has made 43 appearances for his boyhood club this season, returning two goals and two assists.

There is currently no suggestion of Liverpool revisiting their previous interest in the Spaniard.
