Jamie Carragher was never a staunch Liverpool fan; he was a born-and-bred Everton supporter.
The former Reds centre-back had grown up supporting Merseyside’s blue half before he joined the first team at Anfield in 1996.
But nowadays, you would not be able to tell he ever supported the Toffees, given his mad reactions to all games involving the team with a Liverbird upon their chest.
So it is no surprise that questions surrounding how his allegiances have turned have cropped up on the weekend of the Merseyside Derby, where Arne Slot’s side host David Moyes’ Blues.

It is expected to be a very interesting game, given the recent performances of both sides, but especially Liverpool’s form, which has seen them be victorious in games through late winners on five consecutive occasions this season.
But the other half of the city have been in fine form too, as the side has only lost once this season in the Premier League.
Carragher was asked on The Overlap by Gary Neville if he could remember when he switched from Everton to Liverpool.
The 47-year-old recalled the first moment when he realised he may have to stop his vocal support of his boyhood team before playing a game for the youth team at Liverpool.

He said: “I was in the Liverpool first team.
(When you changed) Yeah I was still an Everton fan when I was playing for the Liverpool youth team.
So we won the Youth Cup.
And the next season, the first game of the season, Liverpool are playing away at Middlesbrough… So I’m on the bench with little Tomo, it was Alan Shearer’s first game for Newcastle, but it was at Goodison.
So even my dad said after that, you’ve got to be (careful), you can’t be (doing that) this has sort of got to stop.”
However, the moment it completely changed for the defender was when he was on his way back from a game with the team, and an Everton game was on as he was pulled up by coaches, including Ronnie Moran.
“But before that, Ronnie Moran had pulled me and the youth team coaches… We are getting on the coach and Everton are playing a replay against Stockport in the FA Cup.
Stockport score so a lot of the bus went up the coaches go ‘f- – -ing get in’ then Everton score I say ‘get in’,” Carragher said.
“Then it was ‘Who the f- – -ing hell is that’… Even the youth team coaches pulled me were a bit like they think you are going to play for the first team ‘f- – -ing calm down’.”
Interestingly, during his time playing in the derby, the Scouser has had five yellow cards but has never been sent off in the 30 games he has faced them.
However, it is a fixture known for red cards, and it currently holds the record for the most in a single league fixture in history (25).
It is no surprise that this long tradition of players being sent off in such an intense game was seen very recently when both Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were sent off.
Even Slot has got in on the action when he was sent off after the game for arguing with the official.
Supporters will be hoping for a win today but also expecting some more mayhem from a fixture which could easily become quite chaotic.
