They have done it at left-back with Milos Kerkez, at right-back with Jeremie Frimpong and now up-front by agreeing a deal for Hugo Ekitike.

The Frenchman is set for his medical on Tuesday after Liverpool agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt worth £69m plus a further £10m in add-ons.

Many fans have been a bit hesitant given the fee and after being linked so heavily with Alexander Isak, but they might be more in favour of the move once they find out what makes him stand out compared to some of their previous targets.

To fit into Arne Slot’s Liverpool team, especially in the forward line, players need to be fairly well-rounded and capable of playing in different positions.

The Reds have also been linked with a few out-and-out goalscorers this summer, such as Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, but Ekitike will offer the Reds a lot more than just goals.

Bundesliga commentator Kevin Hatchard, who has watched him over the past two years, strongly believes that Slot may have a ‘one of a kind’ player on his hands.

“I think the thing they might have landed on is his footballing intelligence and creativity,” Hatchard told Redmen TV 2.

“The temptation with strikers sometimes is to think about ‘can they deliver 20-25 goals a season?

Are they just interested in goalscoring?

Is that just what we need?

“But If you look at the way Arne Slot looks at players, looks at the whole piece, I think what they are looking at with Ekitike is creativity.

“I think they are looking at combinations and that is what has really stood out about him in the last 18 months.”

The Bundesliga expert concluded by saying: “He can be a facilitator, but he can also try and lead the line on his own and run in behind, and try to hold the ball up and link play, so I think it’s a really interesting skill set that he has and there aren’t too many players out there that are like him.”

Fluidity and interchangeability are characteristics a Liverpool striker needs as they will be expected to link up with the players around them and kick-start attacks as well as finish them off.

Ekitike clearly has this in abundance and with players such as Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah around him, it is hard to see anything other than this transfer being a huge success.

The Frenchman can score with both feet and his head, and he also has the ability to play neat passes around the corner to his attacking teammates, similar to what Roberto Firmino used to do.

As many people keep emphasising, at just 23, Ekitike is by no means the finished article, but he certainly has all the potential to establish himself as one of the best strikers in England, and then maybe even the world.
