Leandro Trossard’s contract adjustment came as a surprise to Arsenal fans, but the reason has now been revealed why the Gunners opted for such a decision.

Trossard has had interest from Premier League club’s and German giants Bayern Munich, and with the arrival of Chelsea winger Noni Madueke it was expected the Belgian would leave.

Arsenal have now agreed a deal for Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace ahead of their North London rivals Spurs.

Eze will increase competition across the forward line, and has a medical booked for a transfer to be completed the Emirates.

Eze is expected to join Arsenal.

Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury, and Arsenal fans believed Trossard’s contract adjustment to be linked with the German’s latest spell on the sidelines.

The new contract will not extend Trossard’s stay at Arsenal, but will increase the 30-year-old’s wages.

With Havertz injured, either Trossard or Gabriel Martinelli could play back-up to Viktor Gyokeres, in a role that could be important in the short-term as the Swedish international adjusts himself to Arsenal’s style of play.
