The release clause of Liverpool transfer target Erling Braut Haaland will be active from June 2022, according to Fabrizio Romano speaking to CBS Sport.

It is no secret that the Reds are struggling to find the back of the net, likewise with the lack of secrecy surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s former side, Borussia Dortmund’s financial trouble.

Earlier this month (February), German publication WAZ, via the Daily Mirror, revealed that BVB were ‘open to selling’ as many as seven players.

Some of the players highlighted to steady the financial crisis was Englishman Jadon Sancho and Haaland.

As Liverpool were subjected to their fourth successive home defeat to the hands of rivals, Everton, it meant another game at Anfield without goal, taking their tally for 2021 to one goal scored and eight against.

Transfer specialist, Romano, confirmed that the Norwegian wonderkid’s release clause in a year would be €75 million (around £65 million).

With the Reds seemingly in freefall down the Premier League table, there is growing emphasis for Jurgen Klopp’s side to replicate the success in the Champions League as they did two years ago, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in Madrid.

West Ham United’s victory over Spurs extended the gap between the Champions League places with the Champions to five points.

Speaking on the matter of Haaland to CBS, Romano said: “Whichever club chooses to make a bid for the 20-year-old Norwegian this summer will have to open negotiations with Borussia Dortmund as well as with the star striker and his agent Mino Raiola.

“If that comes to fruition, we’re looking at one of the most exciting races of recent years involving European giants.

“No decision has yet been made on whether Borussia Dortmund, currently sixth in the Bundesliga table, will accept any bids this summer or wait until the summer of 2022, and much will depend on whether the club can qualify for the Champions League next season, along with, obviously, the price tag.“

Could Haaland be the answer? Possibly. He currently stands as one of the most sought-after footballers in Europe.

He displayed his power and finishing prowess when his former club Red Bull Salzburg came to Anfield, last season, with the 20-year-old finding the back of the net in an enthralling 4-3 Liverpool win.

So far this term, he has scored 17 goals in as many Bundesliga games.
