Former Premier League referee David Coote is facing multiple charges from the Football Association.
This is after footage emerged showing him making offensive comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.
The video, which surfaced in November 2024, captured Coote appearing to call Liverpool “s**t” and using an expletive-laden insult toward then-manager Klopp.
The comments reportedly stem from a period around July 2020 and were made in a casual conversation that was later recorded and posted online.

Following internal investigations and his dismissal from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) in December, the FA has now moved forward with disciplinary action.
In a statement (via reports by BBC), the governing body confirmed Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3:
“It’s alleged that the referee acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words contrary to FA Rule E3.1.
It’s further alleged that this constitutes an ‘Aggravated Breach’, which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference – whether express or implied – to nationality.”
The FA added that while gambling-related misconduct had also been investigated, no charges would be brought on that front.
The leaked footage followed closely after Coote officiated Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa in November 2024.
In the video, Coote can be seen discussing past matches involving Liverpool, including the infamous 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa in 2020.
In one segment, Coote remarks: “Liverpool were s**t.”
When asked about Klopp, he responds:
“A German c**t… I’ve got no interest in speaking to somebody who is f***ing arrogant.”
While UEFA already banned Coote earlier this year over his conduct surrounding Euro 2024, these fresh charges could mark a final chapter in the fallout from his controversial outburst.
