Remarkable statistic shows Liverpool must make the most of AC Milan Champions League clash

That’s right: Liverpool have never hosted Milan in one of those famously raucous nights under the lights at Anfield, and the Rossoneri have never welcomed Liverpool to the cauldron of a packed San Siro (although it must be noted that Liverpool have played in San Siro before, facing Inter in the 2007/08 round of 16).

It was a statistic that took many by surprise, given the history of the two clubs: in the aftermath of Liverpool and Milan being drawn in the same group in this season’s Champions League, it was pointed out that the two sides have never played at each other’s stadium.

Again, like Bayern, the two clubs haven’t met since.

This was a quirky stat, considering the two teams have won 13 European Cup or Champions League trophies between them, and have generally been regulars in the Champions League since its rebranding in 1992.

As already mentioned earlier, Liverpool have already played at the San Siro previously, against Inter.

Jürgen Klopp’s old side, Borussia Dortmund, have only met Liverpool once in the Champions League, 20 years ago.

But their round of 16 clash in 2008 was the only time the two sides have ever squared off in the Champions League.
