The Ballon d’Or is set to be awarded on Monday, with four Liverpool players in with a chance of winning the most prestigious individual trophy in football.

30 stars of the European game were nominated in August, but only one will come away with the trophy in Paris.

Unfortunately, many on the long list will know they have little chance of scooping it, but may go along to Paris for the ceremony regardless.

After last year’s debacle involving Vinicius Jnr and Real Madrid, the victor has been kept tightly under wraps, meaning those in the running will not know who has won until the official announcement.

For Liverpool, Mohamed Salah is one of those who does stand a genuine chance of walking away with the golden ball.

The Egyptian is vying with Ousmane Dembele, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha as favourites.

But Salah is not the only member of the Liverpool squad recognised, with three other players hoping to finish as high as possible.

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has backed Salah to win the Ballon d’Or, but Dembele’s haul of trophies with PSG may see him take the cake.

If it is not Salah, it is highly, highly unlikely any other Liverpool player will be in the top three or four, but Virgil van Dijk may stand the best chance of making the top 10.

Van Dijk was instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League title win and it would not be a surprise to see the Dutchman improve on his 22nd position in 2022, the last time he was nominated.

Alexis Mac Allister was possibly a surprise nominee to some, but recognition for the Argentine’s brilliance is overdue.

Wirtz was nominated for his exploits with Bayer Leverkusen, though, and will likely place in a similar position to Mac Allister.

Outside of the main award on the night, Alisson Becker is on the list for the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper, but will probably lose out to Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot could be eclipsed in the Coach of the Year by treble-winning PSG boss Luis Enrique.

For many football fans, the result of the Ballon d’Or is completely immaterial and they will have little interest in tuning in for the ceremony.

But for others, it is the kind of glitzy award’s occasion which the game should have more of.

If you fall into the latter camp, then you’ll need to know that the Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to begin at 8pm GMT at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, as per beIN SPORTS.

These things tend to be relatively long-winded, however, with the men’s winner likely to be announced far later in the evening.

Best of luck to all the Reds involved.
