Trent Alexander-Arnold has severed any chance that he had of returning to Liverpool after he chose to leave Anfield for nothing to make a move to Real Madrid.
One of the roles that Alexander-Arnold had during his time at Anfield was that he became the Reds’ vice-captain.
However, now that he’s left, a new vice-captain needs to be chosen, with the Liverpool ECHO outlining that three of Liverpool’s first-team squad are the ‘leading candidates.’
The ECHO share that each of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker are the ‘remaining existing members’ of the Reds’ leadership group and are the main options in Slot’s mind for Liverpool’s new vice-captain.
The left-back only has one year left on his current deal at Anfield, with both Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas also in his position in Liverpool’s squad.
Many expected Robertson to be the one to leave this summer once Kerkez joined, especially since he earns almost double what Tsimikas does.
However, now that he’s in line for the vice-captaincy, it’s hard to see how Liverpool would be considering selling him, especially due to his seniority in the side.
Of course, only time will tell who gets handed the vice-captain role, but at the moment, if Robertson stays at Anfield this summer, it looks likely that the Scotsman could be next in line.
