Liverpool are on the lookout for a new centre-back during the rest of the summer transfer window.
The Reds have sold Jarell Quansah, meaning they have just three senior centre-backs on the books heading into the season.
This sparsity of options was demonstrated on Sunday, when Arne Slot used Luca Stephenson, Amara Nallo and Andy Robertson at centre-back for Liverpool against Preston.
Robertson looked comfortable in the middle of defence, and the Scotsman has played there for Liverpool in the past.
However, in an ideal world, another addition would be brought in.
As Rousing The Kop revealed last week, Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Giovanni Leoni of Parma as they look to bring in a young defender.
The Reds have been trying to recruit an up and coming centre-back for the last couple of years, and 18 months after missing out on one reported target, they could now get another chance.

Rewind to the winter of 2023, and there were reports from Brazil that Liverpool were trying to sign Lucas Beraldo from Sao Paulo.
Although there were claims that the Reds were leading the way for the young Brazilian, he ultimately joined PSG for £17m.

Since then, Beraldo has gone on to win the lot with the Parisians, culminating in a Champions League victory last month.
However, in the wake of PSG’s surprise loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final on Sunday, French outlet L’Equipe report that Beraldo has submitted a transfer request to leave.

The 21-year-old is reportedly unhappy to play as back-up for PSG and has asked the club to sell him this summer.
Paris are said to have accepted Beraldo’s request, but on condition that they are able to sign top target Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth, and if a transfer fee of around £26m is met.
With Liverpool in need of a centre-back relatively urgently, Beraldo’s keenness to leave PSG could be an opportunity for them.
Clearly, the one point to raise is that if the Brazil international is not happy on the bench in Paris, he isn’t going to be any more pleased playing second fiddle to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
While that may be true, there is a real possibility that Konate leaves Liverpool within the next 12 months.
If Beraldo can tough it out battling the Frenchman for a place in the starting line-up for a year, he could be rewarded with a guaranteed spot in 2026/27.
The fee sounds very reasonable, and Liverpool clearly liked what they saw from the left sided Beraldo in the past.
