Liverpool are continuing in their attempts to lure Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to the club.

Slot has been installed as the front-runner to replace Jurgen Klopp. After three months of searching, the wait looks to be almost over.

On Wednesday, reports claimed that Liverpool had made an opening offer to Feyenoord for the 45-year-old. That bid was rejected.

With another reportedly set to come on Thursday, FSG are seemingly pushing hard to wrap a deal up before the end of the season.

And although it looks likely that they’ll be able to do that, nothing is certain just yet. With other top clubs also claimed to be circling Slot, nobody at Liverpool should be counting their chickens. And, as it turns out, the Reds do indeed appear to have a back-up plan.

Liverpool interview Thomas Frank

Prior to Slot being named as the new favourite to take over at Anfield, Ruben Amorim had looked like the outstanding candidate.

The 39-year-old is even said to have tried to ‘put pressure’ on Liverpool to hire him by engaging in talks with West Ham earlier this week.

But, unmoved, it seems as though the Reds might have actually discounted Amorim from consideration altogether.

The same though cannot be said for Brentford boss Thomas Frank. According to Tipsbladet – an outlet from Frank’s native Denmark – the 50-year-old has been under consideration by Liverpool ‘for a long time.’

There is even said to have been an interview take place between Frank’s representatives and the Reds’ decision makers.

Ultimately though, it’s noted that Liverpool have opted to move forward with Slot instead. Given the paper’s insistence that Frank was a ‘serious candidate’ to replace Klopp though, it might be wise to now install him as an official back-up.

Is it possible Liverpool will hire Thomas Frank

Frank’s name has been in the mix more or less ever since Klopp announced his decision to leave three months ago.

The Dane has done a superb job at Brentford and looks set to keep them in the Premier League for a third season running.

A positive and charismatic figure, you can understand why Frank would appeal to Liverpool. But it’s also true that he has won nothing at all as a manager.

Although his knowledge of English football could be a bonus, his lack of a trophy-winning track record will count against the former Brondby boss.

For now, it’s rightly all eyes on Slot. But if for any reason things fall apart, Frank will be ready.
