According to Correio da Manhã, Liverpool are ready to bid for Matheus Nunes, a player Everton nearly signed under Rafa Benitez, after Thiago suffered an injury.

Correio da Manhã believe Liverpool are now ready to meet Sporting Lisbon’s €45m (£38m) asking price for Nunes, having learned that Thiago will be out of action for six weeks with a serious hamstring injury.

Correio da Manhã add that Nunes has already rejected an offer from Wolves.

Now, lightning could be about to strike twice for the Toffees, as Liverpool prepare a bid for Nunes.

As aforesaid, Everton nearly signed Nunes while Benitez was in charge at Goodison Park.

Now, if Liverpool end up signing Nunes and he shines for the Reds, it would not be a good look for Everton.

• ‘Liverpool have scouting reports’: Journalist says Reds think 23-year-old could be ‘perfect’ Liverpool’s interest in Nunes comes after he made 50 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring four goals while also providing five assists.
