Liverpool fans got another glimpse into their plans for next season with a behind closed doors friendly against Stoke on Sunday.

Supporters are itching to get a closer look into how their new-look team is shaping up after waiting a full week since their match with Preston.

And though fans were impressed with what they saw from Liverpool, things are arguably about to get even better.

Hugo Ekitike is set to be added to the Liverpool squad, as Arne Slot finally brings in his own centre-forward.

With Florian Wirtz also arriving in attack, fans are intrigued to see how Slot is planning to fit all the pieces of his puzzle together.

And they may have just been given a sneak peek into those blueprints as the inside story of Ekitike’s impending move is revealed.

The addition of Wirtz really set the cat among the pigeons in terms of Liverpool‘s potential formations for next season.

The Reds have not really had a player like the German for a very long time, and it really is fascinating to see how Slot plans on using him.

Equally intriguing is how Ekitike will now fit into that.

Will he play in front of Wirtz, beside him, or even to his left?

According to French outlet L’Equipe, the answer is very much in front of the Germany international.

They claim that Slot had a video call with Ekitike recently, in which the Liverpool head coach ‘presented the idea’ of playing a 4-2-3-1 formation next season, with the new striker at the head.

Slot is said to have discussed an ‘evolution’ in Liverpool’s playing style, which will include a ‘creative, mobile number 9 capable of combining, pushing forward, and also playing deep.’

Ekitike is claimed to have left the meeting with Slot ‘seduced’ by the ideas shown to him.

As well as providing some interesting insights into how Slot attempted to woo Ekitike, L’Equipe also offer some more context around the race to sign the 23-year-old.

They claim that as well as an approach from Newcastle and ‘tentative’ discussion over an ‘XXL’ move to Saudi Arabia, Ekitike also had other interest in England.

Chelsea are claimed to have ‘pulled out all the stops’ in an attempt to persuade the France U21 international to join them, but it was not successful.

Manchester United reportedly ‘interfered’ as well, but the Red Devils were too late; Ekitike had already informed Eintracht sporting director Markus Krosche to speak to no one but Liverpool.

This is not the first time Slot and his presentations have won the heart of a big name signing for Liverpool.
