Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has been identified as a potential target to Bayern Munich, according to reports. The European champions could be in the market for a new number two this summer.

This comes from the German publication Sport 1. They say that Bayern could be after an alternative to club-captain Manuel Neuer, with current back-up goalkeeper, Alexander Nübel, currently pushing for a move.

And as a result, Bayern have drawn up a list of potential candidates, which has featured Karius, whose Anfield deal is due to expire next year.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin and has largely spent the majority of the 2020/21 campaign as back up to Andreas Luthe.

However, Karius’ fellow goalkeeper and countryman has recently been granted compassionate leave following an illness in his family. This has opened the door for Karius who, with three clean sheets and just one goal conceded in his four league appearances, appears to have seized his chance with both hands.

He is expected to return to Merseyside in the summer, although he has publicly revealed he’d be more than happy to remain in Berlin beyond his loan period.

However, according to reports from Germany, if Karius is to continue making an impression between the sticks at his current club side, then, he can also look at remaining in his home country via a switch to Bayern.

Karius finding some form is one of the feel-good stories during a period that has seen Liverpool lose five consecutive home matches on the spin.

It highlights perfectly what the power of results can do to a player’s confidence.

Since Karius was reinstated back into the team, his club-side Berlin are unbeaten and he has conceded just one goals in four matches.

It’s worth pointing out, too, that Karius still has plenty of time. At 27, he is still relatively young in goalkeeping terms.

Hopefully, his recent form will finally allow him to sustain some momentum and kick-on either in Berlin or Bavaria.
