Manchester United’s decision to announce that they are for sale was influenced by FSG putting Liverpool on the market, according to journalist Miguel Delaney in his Reading The Game newsletter in The Independent (1:02pm, November 25, 2022).

While Fenway Sports Group (FSG) put Liverpool up for sale earlier this month, it was only this week when the the Glazers announced that they are ready to part ways with Manchester United.

Liverpool and Manchester United are the two biggest clubs in England and in the world, and both are on the market at the moment.

Like United, Liverpool are a massive global brand who have fans all over the world.

“Many in such circles believe that what was actually influential as regards the announcement was Liverpool’s decision to put themselves on the market, as the two clubs are now competing for buyers.” It will be interesting to see which parties eventually buy Manchester United and Liverpool.

Delaney wrote: “The Independent reported in August that most of football believed United were for sale, and this was not denied by the club.

As for Liverpool, under manager Jurgen Klopp, they have won he Premier League and the UEFA Champions League in an era where Manchester City are dominating English football.
