Liverpool have spent big in the transfer window but they are not opposed to picking up players for cheap as well.

The Reds this summer appear to be being linked with big name after big name, and not only that, but they seem to get them too.

Florian Wirtz was the big signing for £116m and the latest is set to be Hugo Ekitike in a deal worth up to £79m.

Once the Frenchman is through the door, and it is only a matter of time now, Liverpool are said to be keen to bring in a centre-back, with many players listed as options.

Marc Guehi is one, but a new target has emerged and it is safe to say it is a rather surprising one that has come out of the blue.

Since the season finished, most players will have flown off on holiday for a bit of downtime with their families and rest ahead of the new campaign.

However, for some of the younger stars, they were competing at the Under 21 European Championships, a tournament England eventually went on to win.

Many of the team shone as well, with one in particular being centre-back Charlie Cresswell, a player that, according to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool are looking at buying.

The 22-year-old moved from Leeds United to French club Toulouse last year, with the Reds sending scouts to watch him play on multiple occasions.

Labelled “excellent” by his former manager Gary Rowett, the defender played in 31 of the 34 league games last season and established himself as a key presence at the back, with his game built around physical presence and aerial dominance.

The Reds are desperately trying to sort their defensive situation out as after selling Jarell Quansah, they have been left a little short.

To add to this, Ibrahima Konate’s future is very much still up in the air and there is a strong possibility he leaves for free next summer, hence why so many names are being linked with a move to Anfield.

Take nothing away from the Englishman, he has proven in France and for his country that he is a more than adequate centre-half, but he is not a very ‘Liverpool signing’.

The Reds usually go for someone in the age range of 18-22 and, although he fits into that bracket, he is at the top end of that and Liverpool would be hoping he would probably be more established in that case.

As well as that, the Reds are the reigning Premier League champions and have gone big on in other areas of the pitch this summer, so it suggests they will do the same when it comes to a new centre-back.

Guehi is the most prominent name linked and, although he is 24, he would make a lot more sense given his experience at the very top level.

The report states that Liverpool are not expected to make an active move at this stage, but if they did, it would certainly be one of their more rogue moves for a long time.
