Alexander Isak has reiterated his desire to join Liverpool despite ongoing resistance from Newcastle United, who are struggling to find a replacement and prefer to keep the striker. A recent meeting took place at Isak’s home involving Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and a Public Investment Fund (PIF) delegation, aiming to convince him to return to Newcastle’s squad under Eddie Howe. Newcastle is prepared to offer Isak a new contract if he recommits to the club, but Isak remains firm in wanting a move to Liverpool as soon as possible.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that since July, Isak’s stance has been unchanged—he wants to move to Liverpool, and Liverpool are ready to make another bid if Newcastle allows it. However, Liverpool is unwilling to meet Newcastle’s reportedly high asking price of around £150 million. Newcastle’s chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who is in Newcastle, will make the final decision, but so far the talks have not led to progress on returning Isak to training or settling his future.

Before Newcastle’s home game against Liverpool on August 25, Isak expressed frustration with Newcastle, accusing them of broken promises and stating that trust has been lost, which has strained his relationship with the club. Despite his actions, Newcastle officials have emphasized Isak remains part of their family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin teammates. Newcastle’s reluctance to sell partly stems from the complications of replacing Isak at this stage of the transfer window. Newcastle directors Jamie Reuben and Jacobo Solis personally visited Isak at his home to discuss the situation, underscoring the seriousness of the ongoing stalemate.

With the transfer deadline approaching rapidly, the outcome remains uncertain. While a move to Liverpool remains Isak’s preference, factors such as Newcastle’s firm stance, the timing, and financial demands mean the protracted saga could conclude with Isak staying at St James’ Park for now, albeit possibly temporarily unhappy and out of the squad.
