Report: How much Liverpool are hoping to sell Darwin Nunez for as Nottingham Forest enter transfer race

Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, with the striker’s future becoming as clear as it ever has in recent days.

Liverpool fans were left fuming by Nunez after the forward posted a now-deleted tweet seemingly taking aim at Arne Slot, with the 25-year-old attacker losing his spot in the starting XI after yet another poor season in front of goal.

As a result, Nunez has been linked with an exit from Liverpool, with the Uruguay international’s time at Anfield set to come to an end after three underwhelming seasons despite signing for the Reds in 2022 for a massive fee.

And Liverpool have now set their price on selling Nuenz amid growing interest from Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest.

According to AS, Liverpool are open to offers for Nunez this summer for as little as €40m (£34m), with Atletico and Forest both interested in signing the South American attacker, who could also depart Anfield on loan.

As per the report, Liverpool are also open to the idea of loaning out Nunez with the striker’s wages set to be a big hurdle for clubs interested in signing the former Benfica man on a permanent deal, with the forward one of the highest-paid players at Anfield.

Indeed, Nuenz was wanted by Saudi Arabian clubs in the January transfer window, though the striker has ruled out a move to the Middle East at this stage in his career with the forward keen to remain in Europe for the next few years.

And with Liverpool demanding £34m for Nunez, there’s a real chance that a club will come in with an offer for the striker, with a move to another Premier League side likely given how much money is expected to be spent this summer.

With seven goals and seven assists this season in all competitions, Nunez is on course to endure his worst year yet with Liverpool, with the forward in need of a change of scenery having once again failed to make the grade with the Premier League giants.

And for Liverpool, selling Nunez would feel like quite the accomplishment, with the Uruguay international not part of Slot’s long-term plans as the Reds look to bring in a world-class striker this summer to lead the line.

Indeed, Nunez’s time at Liverpool is up, and a move this summer will benefit both the club and the player, who need a clean break if they’re to move on from each other and to go their separate paths in football next season.
