Liverpool desperately want a striker and there have been some surprising updates over recent days.
The Reds came flying out of the blocks this summer and made some quick-fire signings to ensure they beat their rivals to their top targets, although there came a period of downtime as the club mourned the loss of Diogo Jota.
However, transfer rumours have started circulating again and it looks like Liverpool will finally get a striker through the door at Anfield in the coming weeks.
The Reds are preparing a bid for Alexander Isak and they would have to smash the British transfer record yet again, with the Swede costing a minimum of £120m.
Other names have been linked and cheaper alternatives have been discussed, but there is one new name who has been added to the list who will raise a fair few eyebrows, mainly due to the fact he plays for Manchester United.

Almost every striker that Liverpool have been linked to this summer has got their fans listening and intrigued over a potential deal, although a move for Man United’s Marcus Rashford might draw in the most attention.
The two clubs have been bitter rivals the whole of the Premier League era and no players have directly moved between the two clubs since 1964, meaning if Rashford did move, it would make history.
According to the Daily Mail, the Englishman’s name was one previously discussed but nothing progressed beyond that, suggesting that the hierarchy knew it was a bad idea from the off.

There is also ‘little potential for that to be resurrected’ as the Reds have doubts after his form in recent seasons, as well as the player desperately wanting to join Barcelona.

Other names who have been discussed as Isak alternatives, who also make a lot more sense, include Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Brentford attacker Yoanne Wissa.
The report concludes that Victor Osimhen was also discussed when Napoli were in talks with Darwin Nunez, but with that deal now off, the Nigerian will not be joining the Reds.
Even though Rashford showed glimpses of excellence at Aston Villa and was labelled by Roy Keane as “fantastic” earlier on in the season, he should be nowhere near the Liverpool team.
Isak on the other hand is exactly who they need and would be the perfect addition to Arne Slot’s front three.
He may cost an absolute fortune but his record speaks for itself and he has been admired at Anfield for a very long time, meaning the move just makes sense.
If Newcastle refuse to sell the Swede, Liverpool are set to move for one of their targets instead in Hugo Ekitike, another player who would be a better option than Rashford.
Either way, a striker looks set to come through the door and Richard Hughes appears to be going all-out for the best of the best, instead of a cheaper alternative that is a gamble.
