Liverpool are still in search of some new additions and the heart of the defence is the area in which they are exploring deals.
The Reds get regular praise for their performance all over the pitch, but sometimes their defence goes a little under the radar.
They have been solid at the back for many years now but face a period of serious transition in this area, with Virgil van Dijk the only nailed-on player for next season who was also key in their title success.
Two new full-backs are expected to become first-choice and Ibrahima Konate’s future is unclear, suggesting the Dutchman may have a whole new defence around him.
Many options have been explored for who could partner him as the Reds aim to defend their title next season and there is one name who has cropped up yet again, with this star also said to have considered the switch to Anfield in the past.

To be a centre-back, the first port of call is usually to be rather tall, with most having to be six foot at the very least.
However, Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is one who has gone against the grain and despite being just five foot nine inches, he has evolved into one of the best centre-backs in the division.
And, according to The Athletic, the Colombian is still strongly admired among those higher up at Liverpool, suggesting that a move could be lined up in the near future.

He was wanted by the Reds in the past and Murillo reportedly strongly considered moving to Anfield, suggesting that he would be keen again if an offer was made.
However, the £80m price tag might prove too steep for the Reds but as he is only 22, and still has a contract until 2029, Forest are in a very strong position if they were to negotiate.
His profile is certainly a lot different to their usual centre-back options, but as long-term admirers, Liverpool clearly think that he could be a real success in Arne Slot’s side.
Whether there are any more departures or not, the Reds appear very keen to bring in a new centre-half this summer, and there are plenty of names on the list.
Ajax’s Jorrel Hato remains an option despite strong interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, with The Athletic indicating that Liverpool could enter the conversation for him soon.
But Marc Guehi seems the most likely as he has confirmed that he will not be signing a new deal at Crystal Palace despite his current one expiring next summer.
This could force the south London club to sell at a much cheaper price than the £70m they were rejecting in January for him, with Liverpool keen to steal in.
Guehi wants guaranteed minutes, however, suggesting the Reds may have to sell Konate to facilitate a move.
