Liverpool have entered the race to sign Carlos Baleba, a highly sought-after midfielder currently at Brighton, competing with Manchester United and Tottenham for his signature. Baleba, aged 21, has gained attention due to his physical strength, ball-winning abilities, and tactical awareness, making him a priority target for several top Premier League clubs. Liverpool sees him as a key future asset to rebuild their midfield, especially with Wataru Endo nearing the end of his career. The Reds envision Baleba fitting well alongside their current midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.
Manchester United’s interest in Baleba comes at the request of head coach Ruben Amorim, who believes the player’s qualities can significantly strengthen their midfield. United has already made contact with Baleba’s representatives, although no formal offer has been made. Chelsea is also monitoring Baleba as a potential long-term replacement for Moisés Caicedo, but a transfer seems unlikely in the immediate term due to Caicedo’s current form. Arsenal and Manchester City admire Baleba’s defensive contributions, while Newcastle and Tottenham remain in an observation phase, with Tottenham possibly viewing him as a replacement for the underperforming Yves Bissouma.

Brighton, however, is reluctant to sell Baleba this summer, with reports suggesting the club values him at around £104 million. This valuation may be beyond Manchester United’s reach, especially after their large summer expenditures, including signing Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko. Liverpool arguably has more financial flexibility with potential outgoing transfers planned to balance their £150 million summer spending. Brighton might consider a sale after the World Cup, making a deal this summer unlikely and potentially a prolonged negotiation.
