Liverpool still have work to do in the transfer market this summer both in terms of incoming and outgoing deals.

The Reds have had an eye-catching window, securing Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, as well as the record-busting capture of Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool could still sign Alexander Isak as well, meaning some significant funds will have to be recouped from sales.

Bayern Munich continue to flirt with Luis Diaz, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool see their much-vaunted second bid as being good enough.

Darwin Nunez could leave for big money as well, while Harvey Elliott is another who would bring in a big fee if he were to leave.

Elliott has been linked with West Ham, with the Hammers attempting to add more creativity to their team following Mohammed Kudus’ exit.

And as August ticks into view, it has been revealed just how close a transfer now is.

Plenty of Liverpool fans would be sorry to see Elliott go this summer.

But the truth of the matter is that Arne Slot simply has not given him enough game time.

There would be much more of a starring role on offer at West Ham, but according to The Daily Mail, Elliott’s move to the London Stadium is nowhere near being done.

They claim the Hammers are ‘keen’ on bringing the 22-year-old from Liverpool and are said to be still in talks to do so.

However, the Reds’ asking price of £50m is currently claimed to be ‘way too high’ and would need to come down significantly.

A loan with a later buy option is reportedly being discussed, with West Ham also said to be still interested in Tyler Morton.

Finances are said to be making it ‘tough’, though, with The Mail carrying quotes from a West Ham insider who says: “We’d love them but sadly a long way off.”

Although Elliott has admitted he could leave Liverpool this summer, you get the impression he would still love another crack at making his mark at Anfield as well.

While Slot appears to be less than convinced by the former Fulham youngster, that could still change.

If Liverpool fail to sign Isak, but still lose Diaz, Nunez and even Chiesa, someone with Elliott’s ability to fill in in the front line would be useful to Slot.

He is a natural deputy to Wirtz, and proved what a difference-maker he can be even in his limited game time last season.

West Ham may not be willing to pay it, but there is a strong argument that Elliott is easily worth £50m, and if the Hammers, or anyone else, do not stump up the cash, Liverpool would simply be better off keeping him around.
