Report: Liverpool looking to beat Lampard to £50m signing, Reds among clubs 'hungrily circling'

According to The Guardian, Liverpool are among the clubs ‘hungrily circling’ around West Ham when it comes to midfielder, Declan Rice.

Rice has been linked for a long time now with a move away from the Hammers, with Chelsea often mentioned as the next destination for the England midfielder.

However, the Hammers have – so far – stuck to their guns with Rice. Their demands of around £80m in the summer were enough to put clubs off. But a report from 90Min claims West Ham may drop their valuation to the £50m mark, and that could alert the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp will no doubt have a watchful eye over Rice’s development. He is a midfielder but, like Fabinho, can also drop into defence if needed. Liverpool, then, would no doubt find big use in a player such as Rice.

West Ham have been hit by the pandemic and sold Sebastien Haller at a loss this January. And looking at this report, it looks like a similar pattern is emerging when it comes to Rice.

TBR View: Out of nowhere, but Rice would be superb in Liverpool

The Reds are already approaching a moment in time which means certain players might move on and new blood will have to come in to continue the evolution under Jurgen Klopp.

Chelsea, of course, remain the favourites for Rice, especially given his big friendship with Mason Mount.

But the opportunity to play at Anfield with Liverpool is a big one. They’re winning trophies, play exciting football, and have a manager who most footballers would love to play for. So while it’s a move away from London for Rice, Liverpool could be an enticing proposition.
