Liverpool are set for wholesale squad changes this summer, with Luis Diaz’s future one that remains up in the air.

The Colombian international has enjoyed his best season yet with the Reds, with Diaz’s form catching the eye of FC Barcelona, who have highlighted the former FC Porto man as their main attacking target for the transfer window.

With Liverpool valuing Diaz at around £65m, it will take some effort from the newly-crowned La Liga champions to meet the Anfield side’s demands for the attacker, especially with Barcelona’s recent financial problems that have been a mainstay in the sports news cycle.

However, even with Barcelona’s threat not as big as one would imagine, Liverpool have still identified a player who could be brought in should Diaz head to Catalonia.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are eyeing Olympique Lyonnais star Malick Fofana as a potential replacement for Diaz should Barcelona manage to sign the South American attacker this summer.

As per the report, Fofana has been an ‘attacking revelation’ for Lyon this season, with the 20-year-old Belgian international impressing for the French giants in a big way having shone in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa League.

Fofana’s agent has already said Liverpool are a dream club for the youngster, with the Lyon talent seemingly set for a big move this summer having made quite a name for himself this campaign for Les Gones.

And in the off chance that Diaz does indeed leave Liverpool this summer for Barcelona, Fofana could be an ideal replacement for the Colombian international, especially with Arne Slot’s attacking ranks needing a younger member.

With Lyon in need of selling a key player this summer due to their own financial problems, Liverpool could be their saviours if a move was to be made for Fofana, who could be well-suited to the Premier League champions for next season.

Fofana has shone at a high level this season for Lyon with the attacker managing 11 goals and six assists in all competitions for the historic Ligue 1 side, with the forward only going to get better in what has been a breakout year.

And at Liverpool, Fofana’s development could hit new heights under Slot and playing alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah, with the Belgian talent a dream replacement for Diaz should a move to Barcelona actually happen this summer.
