Julian Ward is set to leave his position as Liverpool’s sporting director at the end of the season, according to journalist Paul Joyce.

After just one year in the role, the former Michael Edwards depute has decided to depart Anfield.

Ward’s departure follows Edwards’ exit, which only came in May.

The sporting director has informed Fenway Sports Group that he wants to take a break from football.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, the club will need to act fast to bring in his replacement, as additions as imperative for Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

As per The Times’ report, Ward’s decision is unexpected and adds to the unprecedented changes ongoing at the club.

Having been handed the reigns by Edwards, Ward was thought to be a strong replacement for the role, having shadowed the former director for many years.
