Liverpool’s transfer priorities are starting to become clearer after the Reds were crowned Premier League champions last week.

It has been a remarkable season at Anfield, with few backing Arne Slot to deliver a league championship in his first year as head coach.

But if Slot was able to capitalise on low expectations this year, he won’t be able to do the same in 2025/26.

Liverpool may well start the season as favourites.

Plenty will depend on what happens in the transfer market, with Slot looking likely to add a new centre-forward and a left-back to the Liverpool squad.

Having squeezed as much as possible out of his midfield this season, the Liverpool head coach may well need another option in the middle of the park, too.

And as they search for the right player to provide competition for Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones, Liverpool are reportedly getting serious in their interest in Genoa’s Morten Frendrup.

With so many good options in midfield already, what Liverpool need is a player Slot trusts more than current back-up Wataru Endo.

There have been suggestions that Endo could stay at Liverpool, but there’s little question the Reds could do with an option who Slot is willing to throw in to start Premier League matches.

Frendrup could be that option.

And according to Team TALK, the 24-year-old is set to be put up for sale this summer.

Genoa are said to be keen to cash in on Frendrup and will reportedly sell the Dane for around £26m.

Frendrup is claimed to be ready for the next step in his career, with Liverpool ‘firmly in the mix’ to sign him.

The Reds have reportedly been scouting Frendrup for more than a year, with scouts said to have been impressed by his ‘strong defensive stats.’

As a result, it’s claimed Liverpool now see Frendrup as a ‘serious target’ in their hunt to sign a rotational midfield option at a competitive price.

It’s easy to understand why Liverpool are keen on Frendrup as a potential rotational option.

At 24 he is young, but not too young, has good experience in a top five European league and is also a full Danish international.

But for all his quality, Frendrup is get-able at a good price and would seemingly not expect to join Liverpool and instantly command a place in the team.

Over time, perhaps he could do that, though.

Former Genoa manager Alberto Gilardino spoke glowingly about Frendrup in January 2024, suggesting the midfielder could play at a higher level.

“Morten is a player who can play anywhere,” Gilardino said via GOAL.
