Liverpool are reportedly exploring a move for a midfielder with ‘enormous potential’ and who idolises Luka Modric.

Considering four midfielders were brought into Liverpool last summer, you would think the midfield will not be a priority for the Reds this summer. The club’s current options have been bolstered by the emergence of players like Bobby Clark as well as Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, who both really elevated their performances recently.

Meanwhile, Stefan Bajcetic finally looks to be back after spending most of the season out injured, and Tyler Morton has also made great strides while out on loan. Both of them could be involved with the club’s first team next season.

However, at the same time, Liverpool will be bringing a new manager in with new ideas and principles. Some of those new ideas may not adhere to all of the club’s current options. So even though Liverpool are well stocked in the department, new recruits cannot be ruled out.

Which is probably why Liverpool’s scouts are exploring options in the market, including a 21-year-old, who has been in great form recently.

Who is Georgiy Sudakov and why do Liverpool want him?

One option on Liverpool’s radar at the moment is Georgiy Sudakov. Liverpool are interested in the Ukranian 21-year-old who plays for Shakhtar Donetsk according to journalist Artur Petrosyan, who posted an update on his X account.

Sudakov is highly rated, and can play in a number of roles in the midfield. His versatility and flexibility makes him an ideal candidate for Liverpool. In the past, he has described his idols and the players he looked up to as Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronald [BBC].

So far this season he has got seven goal contributions in 24 matches at club level, including a goal against Barcelona in the Champions League. In total Sudakov has played almost 100 (91) matches for Shakhtar, which is quite an achievement at such a young age.

He’s also represented Ukraine’s senior national team 14 times and played a key role in helping his country qualify to Euro 2024 this week, registering both assists in a 2-1 play off final victory over Iceland.

In the past, his former Shaktar Donetsk reserve coach, Fernando Valente, hailed Sudakov as someone with enormous potential and who was good enough to play for the likes of Manchester City.

“Sudakov is a lad with enormous potential, he could even play for Barcelona or Manchester City. He was the best player I coached and we have a strong relationship,” Valente said as per GOAL.

Now it might just be Liverpool who look to move for him this summer. Chances are the club will have to move early. A good Euro 2024 will only increase his value.
