The revamped FIFA Club World Cup kicks off this summer in a competition that has already split football fans across the globe.
Liverpool will not be competing in the 32-team competition, with Chelsea and Manchester City the Premier League’s only participants that will see teams from all six continents compete to be crowned the Club World Cup champion.
With Real Madrid looking to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the tournament, the Club World Cup has offered some unique quirks to this summer’s transfer window, with clubs taking part in the competition allowed to sign players before the market officially opens.
And South American giants River Plate have now been offered the chance to sign a Liverpool player ahead of the Club World Cup.

According to D Sports on Twitter, Darwin Nunez has been offered by River Plate as a signing ahead of the Club World Cup, with the Argentine giants keen to make a big impact at this summer’s competition, along with the other non-European teams.
Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer with the Uruguay international already attracting interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest and Atletico Madrid, with the striker once again failing to match the expectations set on him by fans and the club.
Although a move to Europe is more likely for Nunez, the chance to play at the Club World Cup with one of the biggest clubs in South America could be an appealing prospect for the Liverpool striker, who hasn’t played on the continent since 2019 with Penarol.

Indeed, whether or not River Plate can match Liverpool’s demands is also another question that needs to be considered, yet the Argentine giants could be willing to break the bank to bring in Nunez in their attempt to make a deep run in the Club World Cup.
Nunez is yet to hit his peak after three underwhelming seasons with Liverpool, with the 25-year-old striker managing just 40 goals in 140 appearances for the Reds having arrived from Benfica in 2022 with a huge price tag and reputation.
And with the forward now being offered to River Plate, a return to South America could be tempting for Nunez, who could thrive in Argentina with one of the biggest clubs in the world who this summer will be competing in the Club World Cup.
Whilst Liverpool might struggle to get a good fee for Nunez, the move could work out well for all parties, especially if River Plate go far in the Club World Cup and take home a large prize fee for their run in the tournament.
