Liverpool could look to raid the Serie A in the summer with plenty of players from Italy believed to be on the radar.

We previously covered how Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners is frequently being mentioned alongside Liverpool in Italian reports.

And now page six of Thursday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Liverpool are ‘preparing an offer’ for Juventus defender Dean Huijsen – who is currently on loan at AS Roma.

Juventus are said to be keen to offload players in order to raise funds for other targets in the summer transfer window.

Predictably, it is not only the Reds who are interested in the services of Huijsen.

Roma, who have seen his quality first hand, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig  are all said to be planning real moves for the young defender this summer.

It is believed that the youngster could cost as much as €40 million for Juventus to sanction a sale.

Who is Dean Huijsen?

Huijsen is a young and talented centre-back who has drawn comparisons with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

He has already made 12 appearances in the Seria A this season on loan from Juventus at Roma.

Under new manager Daniele De Rossi, he seems to be thriving – scoring two goals and providing an assist in 417 Serie A minutes.

Eligible to represent both Spain and the Netherlands, it seems as if he is tending towards Spain at present.

His former Dutch U17 coach Mischa Visser describes Huijsen’s playstyle succinctly (via GOAL):

“Dean is a very versatile player,” Visser began.

“And despite being a centre-back, he is very effective in the attacking phase.”

“In defence, he is able to take up the right position with the right timing, and thanks to his physical size is good at winning duels.”

“His calmness impresses me, he doesn’t seem to be stressed at all.”

“He is good at concentrating on what he has to do on the pitch, he is not affected by the pace of the game or by the pressure in the stands.”

According to transfermarkt, the 18-year-old is equally adept at using both feet – meaning he is an ideal option for left-back cover or as a wide left-centre back in a back three.

There is bound to be plenty of interest in the teenager as he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and has all the attributes of a modern centre-back.
