Liverpool have beaten Manchester United on the pitch many times over recent years and now they are looking to beat them in the transfer market too.
Arne Slot’s side had a very different season to Man United and Reds fans will have loved to see it as they witnessed their side lift the league title, while the Red Devils slumped to their lowest-ever Premier League finish.
Off the pitch, Liverpool are getting one over on their rivals too after having a transfer window to remember, particularly after making such a statement signing like Florian Wirtz.
Whether Reds supporters like it or not though, Man United do still have the ‘pull-power’ despite being so poor over recent seasons, with the Red Devils linked with some big names, especially in attack.
However, there is one striker who they have been linked with ever since Ruben Amorim was appointed, but it looks like Liverpool are going to try their very best to snatch him from under their noses.

The Reds have been in the market for a striker all summer and it feels like there is a continuous conveyor belt of options being listed week in, week out.
However, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres has been linked in the past, just not particularly heavily, until now that is at least.
According to Correio da Manha, Liverpool are ready to jump the queue and steal in with a ‘big-money offer’ to tempt the Swede to join this summer.

According to the Portuguese report, the Reds have asked his representatives to ‘confirm Gyokeres’ price’, with them responding by saying they would want €80m (£68.2m) to let him go.

They also claimed that once Darwin Nunez is off-loaded this summer, with Napoli a likely destination, Liverpool are ready to make an ‘interesting offer’ to give them the best possible chance of landing him before the new season.
Arsenal are still interested and appeared to be the favourites to sign him, but now everything could have changed as Liverpool have shown their cards in the battle for his signature.
Gyokeres has been the talk of the town all summer and he is arguably the hottest talent on the continent – with it being no surprise either.
His goal returns over the last few seasons have been nothing short of sensational and he is the exact lethal striker that Liverpool have been looking for.

He already has experience in English football, albeit when he was young and most of it being in the second tier, but he certainly has all the traits needed to be successful, with his development since joining Sporting being huge.
Hugo Ekitike is Liverpool’s ‘back-up’ option if they fail to get Alexander Isak, but at this price, the Reds may opt for Gyokeres instead, especially if it means they get another one over on their rivals.
