‘Perfect’ manager will get Liverpool interview after Xabi Alonso move is ruled out

Liverpool have pulled out of the race to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager.

The Spaniard was the man everyone at Liverpool wanted as Jurgen Klopp‘s successor. It seemed like he was the chosen one, but reports have revealed that the Reds are no longer pursuing Alonso because he wants to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

Michael Edwards and Richards Hughes have to find a different manager to fill the void that will be at Liverpool in the summer, and several names have been linked.

One manager whose side are on top of their league table is said to be the new favourite to replace Klopp at Anfield now.

Liverpool will invite a foreign manager for an interview

Xabi Alonso would’ve been an exciting option for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers in world football. Replacing him will be a monumental task for any manager, which is why Liverpool need to be careful with their appointment.

Alonso’s history with Liverpool would’ve given him the full support of fans, even in difficult times, but he will not be joining the Merseysiders this summer.

As a result, the Reds are looking elsewhere, and The Daily Mail have claimed that Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is the new favourite for the Liverpool job.

The report claims that Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi is also on the list alongside the Portuguese.

It has further been revealed that Amorim, whose Sporting Lisbon side are on top of the Portuguese League table, is set to be given an interview after he scored well on Liverpool’s data tests.

Amorim, who is still just 39 years old, has been tied down to a contract at Sporting until the summer of 2026. However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he has a release clause that would make him available for £26 million.

Ruben Amorim’s win percentage compared to Jurgen Klopp’s

Ruben Amorim is one of the most talented young managers in Europe right now.

The 39-year-old had a 76.9 per cent win rate during his short spell at Braga, and after 202 games as Sporting Lisbon boss, his number stands at 69.8 per cent.

Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, has a win rate of 62.4 per cent at Liverpool, while at Borussia Dortmund, it was even less – just 56.6 per cent.

That’s exactly the reason why Nigel Reo-Coker thinks Amorim ‘is the perfect choice‘ to replace Klopp at Liverpool this summer.
